Class- 9.29.17

Today in human geography we started off class very disoriented. This is because pf the brown room. Everyone was over exaggerating the situation, and complaining. In order to calm us down from the loud chaos we were creating, Mr. Schick explained it was a brown out, and power would be back up soon. We then slightly quieted down. We were also assigned new seats. After this we moved onto class. We learned  that the location of a site can be found by referring to it's situation. You do this by describing characteristics of the surroundings around the pathway you take to get to your location. So you explain how to get to an unfamiliar place relative to the familiar places around it. We need to fund an unfamiliar place and make it important to us. We are close and excessible to Baltimore this is a good situation for us because the inner harbor is in baltimore. The harbor helps us with shipping, economy, and trade. This creates jobs and much more. We had a great class today.

Class- 9.28.17

Today in class we started with Mr. Schick assisting a student because thy had blog problems. We then continued on to review what we learned yesterday. Then we learned about sites and when people are settling the are influenced by the land, climate, and other things. Man has the ability to change sites. For example, NYC has been made two times bigger, land wise. They used sunken ships and landfill to build onto the land and make more money. Although, in some places, such as Houston, man should nit change too much. This is because if we take out all the farmland, which absorbs the rain, and fill it with cement and houses, we will have nowhere for the rain to go. This occurred in Houston because the water overflowed in the nearby water source that the water was suppose to flood, thus it had nowhere to drain because kA the farmland was destroyed. It's good for man to change some of site, but if gets out of control it's a problem.

Class- 9.27.17

Today in Human Geography we started of our day, and class with a pop quiz! All of us were not happy and realized the outcome of this quiz was not going to be very good. Mr. Schick continuously said we would all get an easy one hundred. Yet, no one agreed because this quiz was so unexpected and not prepared for. Im hoping I'll be able to raise my grade from something else. After that we moved on to start class. We learned about site and situation. A site determines and influences many things in a community or area. For example, cows in Maryland supply milk and food. In addition we learned about elevation. We learned that that flatness, rockiness, and other things effect the area that they're in. Elevation is the comparison of something depending on its height above sea level. The higher it is the harder it is to breath. We had an intriguing and surprising cals today.

Class- 9.25.17

Today in class I had a shadow student. I introduced her to the teacher and the class. Then she introduced everyone a little bit about herself. We then took attendance. After that we discussed the issue of Africa not being taught enough. Because Western Civilization was taught the majority of the time, Africa was typically barely mentioned. After that we continued on to discuss the football players that decided to not participate in the National Anthem. We all realized and agreed that this deed was not illegal, therefor t hey could do as they chose in their opinion. Nevertheless, we all agreed that it’s disrespectful to the men and women who have gotten injured, died, and risked their lives so that we could have the opportunity to be safe and free. Mr. Schick used the Socratic Method. This was so that his opinion didn't influence ours. We had a great class.

Class- 9.20.17

Today in class we made sure everyone completed their homework. Some completed it and some didn't. The homework assigned gave me a realization of the importance of geography. Many of us when assigned the map drawing were clueless. After returning that fun homework, we continued onto class. We learned why each point on the earth is unique. This is because of regions, and places. A place is a point, a unique location of a feature. It could have different economical situations, as well as different amounts of land. Regions are areas of unique characteristics. Every place on the earth is unique. A region tells you about a a lot about a place. It displays the society, religions, culture, language and much more. A place is a more detailed description of an area, while a region is a bigger picture of something. In the end, we had a great class.

Class- 9.20.17

Today in class we were handed back our test. If you received one hundred or more you got a double ding on the bell! If you got a ninety through ninety nine you got one ding on the bell! If you received below a ninety you unfortunately got one ding. After handing back our tests in an exciting way, we moved on to our lesson for the day. We learned about mental maps and activity spaces. We described our daily routine. This helped us further understand the concept of mental maps. A mental map is a person's point of view of their area of interaction, most commonly called your activity space.  This is sometimes incorrect, and when really experienced we are surprised by the different outcome. In addition to writing a blog we have to draw a mental map of the world, as well as a mental map of the pathway we take to come to school everyday. In the end we had a great class, and I assume we will all be surprised between the difference of a real map and our mental map.

Class- 9.18.17

Today in human geography we realized it was best if Mr. Schick graded out tests during class. One reason is because two students were absent the day the test was taken so they needed to complete their tests. While they took their tests we worked on our homework that we needed to complete, thus I'm writing my blog. This kept a quiet atmosphere while the two other students completed their test. So, we're having a very productive class. Mr. Schick grades out papers one page at a time, and he only needs to complete the essay portion of all of our quizzes. I find that a very efficient way of grading. After writing this blog I will continue to work on homework. I will most likely do my math homework.  Then, I'll study for a dance quiz I have coming up soon. This was a very helpful mod.

Class- 9.15.17

Today in class we went over the difference between the Peter's projection map and the map the majority of people use in current times. The Peter's projection map is a more accurate representation of geography. The map most people use today is not geographically correct. It has incorrect proportions. It shows the United States of America much bigger than it truly is. It also displays Africa much smaller than it truly is. For some reason we haven't reacted to the change of the time. Although the map we use today was meant for sailors in the 1500's, we still haven't adapted to current, accurate geography. We watched a video of an old tv show that showed the massive difference between the accurate map (Peter's Projection Plan) and the map used today. We also watched an unfortunate and frustrating weather forecast from a man on tv. He was extremely incorrect. He displayed The United States as extremely huge, It seemed as though it took up the entire globe! Th

Class- 9.14.17

Today in class was when it got hard. Wa had a great and productive class. We learned about regions. Regions are highly contested, yet an important concept in human geography. Inn addition it can be studied as they relate to space, place, and location. Regions allow us to generalize about a common characteristics we can better group them. While a formal region is an area with a high level of consistency in a certain cultural or physical attribute. It's uniform or homogeneous areas where everyone in that region shares common attributes or traits like language, climate or political system. Formal Regions are primarily used to determine and outline political, cultural, and economic regions. We had a great class, although it was difficult I think with diligence and determination I will keep my grades up. Sometimes when Im taking notes I tend to just write them down without fully comprehending what they say and mean. Thankfully, I understand these notes, and hopefully will continue to.

Class- 9.12.17

We took our first quiz today! Yay! I feel as though it was at a great level. It wasn't too hard or too easy. I think I did very well. This is only because I studied though. Although there was one question about what is the person called who writes quickly and uses shorthand. We didn't review this during the review so I did not mark it in my notes. Despite I did review all my notes I focused more on what we went over on the review. Thus, it was on the tip of my tongue but I forgot the answer. The exam had a great variety of questions, including multiple choice, essays, and others. In addition, I liked the length of the quiz. I think it fit my level of capability just right. I feel confident about my first quiz, and hopeful for the next to come.

Class- 9.11.17

Today in class we reviewed for our quiz tomorrow. We went over the message in A Message to Garcia. This story teaches us to   take initiative by going without delay to complete the task given. This also teaches others to stay out of the mindset of finding the easy way out. Historically, this story took place during the Spanish American War in 1890. The man who successfully completed the tasks name is Rowan.         Synergy is when the energy from one thing feeds off of the other and vise versa. This applies to democracy and excellence.         A famous historical greek philosopher was Socrates. He created the Socratic Method. This method taught us to learn about others beliefs through simply asking questions.  His famous quotes is "the unexamined life is not worth living". This reminds us to be involved in public life, whether through voting, or other things. It's important to work towards your fool potential.          After an exciting and unique way to revie

Class- 9.10.17

Today in class we reviewed what we learned last class, and then learned additional information. We went over the incredible greek philosopher, Socrates, and his great accomplishments. This included the Socratic method. Despite Socrates complex, knowledgable, and new way to explore beliefs, Greece disagreed with this new way, and decided to execute him. They believed this corrupted the youth, and wanted to stay with the beliefs they already had. We also learned about synergy. There's no democracy without excellence, and there's no excellence without democracy. Each completes the other. We also learned the definition of idiot in Athenian Democracy. An idiot could have been extremely smart, yet they were self-centered. In addition, denying to be involved with public life was considered dishonorable back in that time. A famous Socrates saying is: "the unexamined life is not worth living". This wise saying means that if you're living life and you're not inv

Class Today- 9.6.17

Today in class we researched and defined Greek vocabulary. We learned that the agora was a public, open space used for assemblies. This was not only a great place to shop, yet a priority for locals to vote their opinion on certain matters. A polis was a city-state in Ancient Greece primarily used for philosophical. In addition we learned that in 508 B.C. democracy was introduced! This is the first time people revolted against their ruler. We also learned about the greek philosopher, Socrates, who was also a teacher. Socrates made a method, called the Socratic Method (very creative). This method taught others that you didn't necessarily have to believe the basic, usual religions and such. This method was a way to ask only questions in order to find out a person's opinion. In the end, we had a successful class of  learning new greek history and vocabulary!

September 5 make up

Human Geography- 9.5.17 T oday in class we learned the background information of a message to Garcia. This story was never intended to go viral. This book was originally published as an inspirational essay in 1899. Due to it’s popularity it was made into a pamphlet, a book, and later on, a movie! In addition, over 40 million copies were sold, and it was translated into 37 different languages! This story took place during the Spanish-American War. Garcia was appreciated in Cuba because he sought for Cuban independence from Spain. During this time Mckinley was the president. Unfortunately he was assassinated by an anarchist. The unusual vocabulary adds dynamics to the story, in order to intrigue the reader. One interesting word we learned was slipshod. This word means careless, and idiotic. The helpful theme in this books is to take initiative. This is when you do the right thing without being told. A word that describes this story is the ancient greek word: arete’. This mea

A message to garcia and a five point action plan

In A Message to Garcia a war between Spain and The United States arose and it was imperative to contact the leader of the insurgents. Yet, Garcia was incapable of receiving any telegraphs or mail. Thankfully, someone proclaimed that a young, devoted man, named Rowan could take on the responsibility if no one else is willing to. And he did. After, a challenging, and long journey, and three weeks of searching through the jungle, Rowan had successfully delivered the message. But, did you notice that when this extremely difficult challenge was designated to him, he willingly saw it through and asked absolutely no questions. This speaks to levels of commitment, diligence, and courage in his character. In order to have the capability to complete this task Rowan had to take initiative, search with confidence, and proceed with diligence.        Rowan took initiative by excepting the opportunity with no hesitation. He didn't take the time to consider pro's and con's. He simply
