The Future (ft. Holly's amazing comment)

Today in human geography we watched a ted talk about how much the world has developed throughout the years. It truly is amazing how much our world has changed. I also didn't realize that all this development actually wasn't too long ago. I learned that usually if you're poor, or in a poverty-stricken country, you tend to die sooner, due to the lack of resources. Yet, if you're healthier that usually means you're rich because you have the food, healthcare, etc... Today we learned all this from a man named Hans Rosling, he teaches global health. In 1810 the majority of people didn't live past forty!! In addition I found it surprising that the flu was deadly in old times. This was due to the lack of advancement in medicine. Countries truly became richer, healthier, and more developed after the Industrial Revolution. This occurred sooner for Europeans and Americans, while Africans and Asians took longer. We also discussed about how we can invent things, Holl

Test

Today I took the test. The beginning portion of the test was pretty simple to complete. This was because we had to look up questions that were answered in the World Fact book. Thankfully, in order to complete this portion well you had to know your way around the fact book, and know where the information was given, and I did. After this section I had to put my computer away, in order to finish the rest of the test. The next part of the test was vocabulary. This was probably the trickiest because I would get them confused due to their similarity. Although it was the hardest, I think I did the best on that part once I got all my confusions sorted out. After this we answered a few questions, which was also pretty simple. Then we had push and pull forces and the population pyramids. The test definitely covered what we learned, and I think I did well.

Kiva Extra Credit

When I heard about Kiva, I of course wondered about the integrity and reliability of a charity website like this. I researched more about the company and realized it was not a scam, and it's a great way to help people in need. This website demonstrates the "think global, act global" idea. You can make a small donation of only $25 and still impact and help someone reach a goal. This small deed can still help not only the person raising the money, but perhaps also the community around the person. For example one man invented a water contraption system that would supply water not only for himself but for the whole village. In addition this organization has a loan system. Not only are you helping others through money, you will fully be payed back (most of the time). Thus, you are helping others without loosing any money. Your loan, whether it be a large amount, or a small amount will still make a huge difference in that person's work towards reaching a goal that wi

Absences

I was absent Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday because of a field trip, and then I got a fever the next two days.

Another Pop Quiz!!

Today in class everyone was complaining about the pop quiz we had to take last class. This is understandable because many people got a bad grade. We then continued on with class and Mr. Schick asked the class what he thinks he could do better about the pop quiz he gave us. Many of us mentioned the fact that it was timed. It is true that the timed factor did make it harder, but what really made me nervous was when he was counting out loud by banging his fist into his hand. This made it stressful because I put my focus into the noise he was making, instead of comprehending the question given with all of my attention. In addition, some other people thought the surprise factor of the quiz was not great. Although it's a pop quiz, and it wouldn't be if it wasn't a surprise. After telling him what we would do differently, he did those things and gave us the same exact quiz again! I was overjoyed when he extended grace, but unfortunately I forgot all the questions and did not do ve

Pop Quiz

Today in class we had a fire drill. At the beginning of class we waited for the fire drill to occur. After anticipating for a few minutes it finally went off. We all quietly reported out to our spot on the field with our advisories. Due to this fire drill we had a short class today. Once everyone eventually made their way back in to the classroom, almost half the class was over! After we all got settled back into class mode we were surprised with yet another pop quiz! Although everyone hates pop quizzes, it truly is what is extremely beneficial to us. By having pop quizzes it tests whether we are paying attention in class and understanding the material given to us. Although they are annoying they remind us what we are learning and keep us on task to remember what we are taught. When we went over the pop quiz I knew I did terrible. Yet by going over it I understood why I did wrong, and will now know what is correct to put on the test. We had an interesting class today.

Population Pyramids

Today in class we started by reviewing what we learned last class. We learned about Population Pyramids. There are three basic shapes. They are called The Christmas Tree, the Box, and The Cup. We divide and categorize population into these groups in oder to help us to be able to remember the details of the population. When I say details I'm referring tot things such as the different genders that change and effect the environment and population of a location. We looked at examples of Population Pyramids and tried to decipher what type of pyramid it was categorized by. We noticed that certain things affected the odd differences between age and gender. We realized this was due to college years, all girls college, beaches that are good for retirement, and much more. Of course, Florida was a great example of age difference. This was a drastic difference. This is because older people enjoy settling down in a warm place. We had a great class.

Population Pyramids

Today in class we learned about population pyramids. We use these to analyze growth or decline of fertility, mortality, and migration of cities. They are divided up into sections. There are three basic shapes. They are the Christmas Tree, the Box, and the Cup. The Christmas Tree is still developing. This shape has a high birth rate. This shape also has a short life expectancy. For example, Namibia, and Bangladesh. The Box is a developed shape. The Box shape also has a slow population. It has a low infant mortality. This shape also has a long life expectancy. For example, Sweden, and U.S.A. The cup is developed as well. Although this has negative growth. This shape also has a low birth rate. It also has a long life expectancy. For example, Italy and Japan. We had a great class of learning different categories of Population Pyramids and much more.
