Branches of Philosophies

Today we continued learning about questioning how we live our lives and why. During this class we discussed the branch of philosophy that studies the nature of reality. This branch is called metaphysics. We also learned about another branch of philosophy. Epistemology is the brach that studies the nature and scope of knowledge. This branch makes us question things such as, Is everything real? We also wonder, How do I know if I'm right? As well as, How will I know if I'm wrong? Can I ever be certain about anything? This lead us into value theory. This brach consists of ethics and aesthetics. Ethics are human conduct within which you decide how to interact and live with other human beings. We question, Should I treat strangers the same as people I love? Aesthetics teaches us the nature and beauty of art. We learned a lot in class today, and had a great time.

Philosophy

Today in class we learned about philosophy. We questioned many things. Reality is asking, What is the nature of reality itself? In further description it asks, Why do you feel what you feel? Why do you think what you think? This class we started exploring and questioning different aspects of life, and talked deeper about what it means to think. Mythos means storytelling. Philos means science. Philosophia is the love of wisdom. Therapy times definition of philosophy is the academic study of anything. The first university was Plato's Academy. This schools rival was Aristotle's Lyceum. During this time they had separate disciplines. In this context the meaning discipline is defined as a field of study. Whether it be math, english, or religion, one would be studied at a time, not all together. Philosophy came to be understood more as a way of thinking about what the world is like/ What's the nature of reality? Is the world just made up of energy and matter, or is...

Test

Today in class I took the test that I missed on Friday. I think the test was a good level because it was the right amount of challenging. I would have done a lot better if I remembered to study the map of Greece. I did very well on all the other sections of the Test. After I took the test, I started taking notes on the new section of the book. After this, we went over the test. I went over where the seas and such are geographically located on the map and studied them so that I'll know where they are in the future. Now I can label where the Aegean Sea, the Ionian Sea, the Adriatic Sea, Peloponnesus, Athens, Sparta, Crete, Asia Minor, and Macedonia are located on the map. We accomplished a lot in class today and think I can do better on my next test if I study every section.

Review for Test

Today we took notes on what we would need to know for the upcoming test on Friday.  508 BC Cleisthenes  - born around 570 BC                    - small settlement called Athens                     - this city he would soon rule the empire                     - the town was built around the acropolis, it was a stronghold                    - citizens - athenians were farmers, no reading or writing, life expectancy was no more than 15 years.                     - the common athenians lived under the aristocrats                    - aristocrat had the power, the country was driven by injustice         ...

Greek Gods and Goddesses

Today we learned some information on Greek Gods and Goddesses. Zeus is the ruler of heaven and earth. He was the father of Athena. He was the god of sky, weather, thunder, lightning, law, order, and justice. He was known for his temper. Everyone knew better than to threaten him because when he's angry he would through thunder bolts. Basically, just don't mess with him. Next we learned about Athena. Sh was the goddess of wisdom, skill, warfare, peace, intelligence, battle strategy, and handicrafts. The odd thing about her is that she was born a fully formed and armored adult. She birthed from Zeus' head. The city Athens was named after her, because she was the patron of the city. We also learned about the good music, art, and healing, which is Apollo. Additionally, the most famous ship was the Trireme. This was the fastest ship in the world, and was a technological marvel to all. We learned a lot in class today.

Absent

I was not in class on Friday, February 9th.

Meaning

Today in class we may have gotten a little of topic. Mr. Schick shared that he isn't going to spend a lot of time on the gods and goddesses, because it's mythology. Others argued that they could be real. This led into a deeper discussion that involved questioning everything we've been taught. How do we know that what we've been told is the truth? This is why we need to discover that for ourselves and not because someone else is telling us to. When our heart stops beating our we going to an afterlife and realizing we were wrong or right, or are we just an absent memory? We have to have faith in what we believe in, and stay true to our morals. We had a ver inquisitive class today. It opened my eyes up to how short life this life is, and reminded me to put my focus on the right things in life.
